Charlotte Mahan is a Columbus, Ohio-based mixed media artist specializing in acrylic portraiture, landscape, and wildlife pieces. Characterized by gestural strokes and bright color choices, they breathe life into everyday subjects in hopes to create a sense of familiarity and emotional resonance to everyday people. The opportunity to share their view of the world with creative individuals drives, and inspires, Mahan’s artistic creation. Mahan’s work has been showed at various venues, including a local gallery and coffee shop, the Ohio State Fair, and the Corgi Clay Art Center in Stafford, VA.

Fun, bright, and gestural are all characteristics I would use to describe my work. It often embraces a playful messiness to show energy and movement, regardless of the subject. Realism or abstract, I want to convey a sense joy and whimsicality in a piece.

My art thrives between abstraction and realism, where I explore vivid expressions of portraits, animals, and landscapes. Working primarily with acrylics, the dynamic and vivid qualities it brings enables me to create works rich in both technique and emotional depth. However, other ways I explore this are through charcoal, ink, photography, and digital tools. Having a variety of mediums helps me delve into my work through multiple perspectives.

Looking at my work, I hope people are able to dive into the charm and complexities of the world around us, and look at life in a different way.
